Inspirational Pastor returns to Burnley College to share life story with Students

Pastor Mick Fleming tells his incredible story from a life of crime to charity founder.

Pastor Mick visited Burnley College to share his story with Religious Studies, Law and Philosophy Students. Mick shared his background and his charity work with our Students, as he elaborated on why he launched his charity and who it supports – and the evolution of his charity. From humble beginnings outside McDonalds in Burnley to having locations all over the North West helping the local community.

Church on the Street Ministries started 9 years ago when the former drug dealer started sharing food and clothing with those in poverty.

As word spread, more people arrived to receive help and more people joined Pastor Mick on his mission, which now has premises and provides a wide range of vital services to those in need.

Listen to our interview with Pastor Mick:

Pastor Mick highlighted the impact that Church on Street is having in terms of supporting the local community.

“It doesn’t look like a normal church when you walk in, we have the NHS working there alongside a mental health team, counsellors, hairdressers and more. We also provide hot food and showers – everything is free.

These are the types of services we provide in order to support the local community – it is labour intensive but the hard work is rewarding.”

Mick continued: “You can walk in for a food parcel, get help with your mental health, speak to a doctor, have a hot meal, a shower and fresh new clothes without making an appointment. You couldn’t find that anywhere else in the country.”

“The NHS outcomes are through the roof because we’re wrapping that extra support around what they’re doing so the NHS are loving it.”

Pastor Mick explained what he wanted our Students to gain from his story. He said:

“I want the students to take away acceptance. Spend your time doing the things that can facilitate change. Understand the world is continuously changing so don’t waste your time focusing on what you can’t change – and once you do that you will find the gateway to faith.”
