SUPPORT

Burnley College is proud to offer a safe and welcoming environment where every individual matters. Students, apprentices, staff and visitors’ wellbeing is of paramount importance to us at all times.

All Tutors and staff members have undergone Safeguarding training and can be approached for support. We also have a professional Safeguarding Team on site to help with advice and guidance on a full range of safeguarding and welfare issues – including problems you may be experiencing in your home life or socially – either by appointment or drop-in session.

Our ethos is centred on the belief that every member of the Burnley College family is responsible for safeguarding others around them and has access to the professional support needed to provide interventions, advice and guidance when necessary.

THE COLLEGE’S SAFEGUARDING DUTY INCLUDES

Protecting vulnerable individuals from the risk of radicalisation and extremism through the Prevent programme – a national government initiative. To this end we actively promote and support the British values of:

  • Democracy
  • The rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.

We work tirelessly and proactively to ensure the wellbeing of all members of the Burnley College family and visitors by:

  • Having up-to-date, clear policies and procedures in place
  • Employing highly-trained Safeguarding professionals
  • Conducting checks to ensure all staff are suitable to work with young people
  • Actively encouraging students and staff to raise any concerns
  • Taking all concerns seriously, acting upon them and offering support through college and specialist services
  • Training all staff in safeguarding and Prevent at a level appropriate to their role
  • Delivering tutorials covering a range of subject areas around safeguarding.
