Inspirational Burnley College Sixth Form Centre Alumni leading the way with career success

A group of outstanding former Burnley College Sixth Form Centre students have hit the headlines by making their mark in their chosen professional careers, inspiring a new generation of students to aim to be the very best.

The three talented and highly-motivated Alumni – all in very different professional fields – are:

  • Marco Marosi– a former Advanced Level Public Services student who is now a Professional Footballer with Coventry City, the team which has been announced as League 1 winners and seen promotion to the Championship next season.  As goalkeeper, Marco is a high-profile, and key member of the team, playing an integral part in City’s success.  While a Burnley College student, Marco was a member of the College’s Football Academy, enhancing his skills with professional training alongside his academic studies.  He has previously recalled his time at College, saying:

“The outstanding Tutors at Burnley College gave me the extra motivation to train hard, alongside the state-of-the-art facilities, such as the 3G pitch and fitness centre. My Tutors were really supportive when I got my first professional contract at Wigan Athletic; they gave me the support and help I needed, while still pushing me academically.”

Daniel Manley – the former A Level student has been shortlisted for an Edufuturists Network Manager of the Year 2020 Award.  Daniel completed A Levels in Business Studies, Computing and ICT before completing an Advanced Apprenticeship in IT and joining Witton Park Academy, Blackburn, as Network Manager and Google Lead only 10 months ago with a remit to break down barriers between technology and teaching staff. A former pupil at Colne Park High School, he said:

  • “My time at Burnley College gave me a solid foundation for my career. I went from the intensity of A Level study into an Apprenticeship where I learnt invaluable work skills. My recent move into the education sector has seen my career take off and I’m able to really make a difference in my workplace and develop staff and students’ abilities and performance.”

Ash Grennan – a former Advanced Level IT (Software Development) student whose expertise has been recognised in one of the North West’s leading business magazines, Lancashire Business View.  Ash, Lead Developer at Serien IT Support, Telecoms and Software Solutions, Barrowford, has used his high profile within industry to comment on the importance of technology in the reality that is ‘working from home’ – recommending software to enable sharing and working cohesively between colleagues and clients.  Writing in LBV, Ash comments:

  • “It has been crucial that business owners ensure they have the right technical solutions in place to allow their teams to work remotely. Just as importantly, they need to be able to sustain morale and productivity across their isolated workforces.

Karen Buchanan, Principal of Burnley College Sixth Form Centre, said:

“Keeping in touch with our Alumni and watching their careers progress is inspirational and rewarding for both staff and students alike.  Although they may have left College to progress to exciting university courses and successful careers, our Alumni will always be a part of the close-knit Burnley College family and we are extremely proud that we have played a key role in their success.  We are delighted to be able to share their achievements with the wider community and showcase just what can be achieved through commitment, motivation and talent.”
