Industry Experts Gather at Burnley College to Shape the Future of Manufacturing in Lancashire

Burnley College has hosted an industry focus group as part of a larger Government scheme to boost employment, grow businesses and plan for the future.

The SME Manufacturing Sector Focus Group for Lancashire Local Skills Improvement Plan (LLSIP) is an element of the government’s Skills Accelerator.

It seeks to redesign the way people train to better meet the demands of the local labour market and the economy at large.

Director of Skills, Innovation and Employer Engagement at Burnley College, Neil Burrows and Industry Engagement Specialist, Glen Bullen joined top employers from all around Lancashire as they discussed Apprenticeships, upskilling requirements and the importance of sustainability in shaping the workforce of the future.

Neil highlighted the important function the LLSIP serves in putting Lancashire employers at the heart of the local skills programme:

We pride ourselves on our links with industry here at Burnley College, so we are honoured to hold these meetings on our Campus.

To be able to collaborate with and influence leading industry employers to develop the changes necessary in making the industry more productive and successful here in Lancashire is a real privilege.

It’s vital for the economy that local employers and trainers work together to help shape the future of Lancashire’s workforce.
