“Creating opportunities for everyone” – The new Head of Apprentices at Themis says working closely with industry alongside learners is the future

The brand-new Head of Apprenticeships at Themis knows just how valuable the right Apprenticeship is – because that’s exactly how she started.
Hannah Cutler has been with Themis for almost ten years and is progressing from her role as Head of Engineering after originally joining as Curriculum Manager for Business, IT and Engineering.

It’s been an amazing journey. I knew when I finished school I wanted to continue learning, but not in a classroom situation.
I wanted to be out there learning and earning. I first became an Apprentice with a national hotel chain before moving in to a management programme.
It gave me so many opportunities to learn about management structure, about what my strengths and my passions were, alongside traveling the country which really helped me understand business culture.

Hannah then moved toward the career she has now:

“I was then invited to become a trainer/assessor for a large training group. I was actually the youngest trainer/assessor they’d ever employed.”
“It opened up so many opportunities for me and introduced me to coaching and development.”
“I came to Themis in 2013 and I immediately fell in love with the huge range of paths available to Apprentices.”

Hannah says what she loves about Themis is the real connection it has to industry:

“What impressed me most and what we strive to do for every learner is how Themis creates real solid outcomes and opportunities.
“The level of progression we see from our Apprentices is truly breath taking.
“And we do that by our connection to industry. I’m so proud to have so many employers from international aerospace firms, digital marketing companies, health and social care providers to Councils – from the largest companies to small local firms who just want the best.
“The levels of commitment they show and the degree of collaboration we have with them allows us to ensure our Apprenticeships are relevant, taught by industry-experts and means every single one of our Apprentices finishes their qualification ready to walk straight in to a job and perform at the highest standard.”
What challenges is Hannah looking forward to in her new role?
“I don’t see challenges; I see opportunities. That’s exactly the attitude we pass on to all of our learners.”
