About the course
The qualification has been developed in consultation with employers in the sport and active leisure
industry and the professional body in sport and has been mapped to professional standards for
working in the school environment (out of curriculum). This means that learners will have achieved
the entry requirement for employment as a sports coach for children. It will enable learners to
develop the skills and behaviours that are required for this job role and give learners the best
opportunity to be successful in applying for work.
All the content of the qualification is mandatory and relates directly to the skills, knowledge
and behaviours expected by employers in the sport and active leisure sector. The areas you
will cover include:
• ways in which people participate in sport and physical activity
• jobs in the sport and activity leisure industry
• personal skills and professional behaviours for working in the active leisure industry
• the school environment and National Curriculum
• the children’s sport leader role within the organisation
• planning and leading children’s sports activity sessions
• sports industry legislation and guidance.
You will also cover broader skills in literacy and numeracy, which will help you to progress. You will
develop other transferable technical and practical skills in communication (working with colleagues,
customers and clients), and self-management and problem-solving skills.

Entry Requirements
A minimum of four GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language OR a relevant Level 1 Diploma and GCSE grade 4 or above in English Language
Assessment
The vocational diploma is assessed via coursework where you will create a portfolio of evidence to show your practical application of the units.
Careers & Progression
Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching & Development. Students also have the opportunity to progress onto Apprenticeship programmes in Sports Coaching or into the activity leadership industry.

Students will need appropriate sports wear which can be purchased from College on enrolment.
Extra curricular activities
There are plenty of activities and visits to take part in that will help you achieve your ambitions including visits to St George's Park Centre for Football, Premier League Football Club Tours, National Football Museum and opportunities to be involved in overseas trips to Club La Santa in Lanzarote (warm weather training), Gothia World Youth Cup Football Tournament in Sweden and European ski trip.
