About the course
This course provides students with the opportunity to further enhance both their practical and theoretical skills gained in previous academic years. As a student on this course you will gain practical skills in the following woodworking projects. This study area will require you to complete both internal and external exams, linked to each topic area. Students will have the opportunity to study topics in: - traditional brickwork methods - block work - correct methods of insulation - insulation of DPM and DPC to follow building regulations - installing lintels above openings in both windows and doors - pointing techniques - stonework - constructing a corner using industrial standard techniques

Entry Requirements
Successful completion of the Level 1 Diploma in Construction Craft programme with the appropriate level of GCSE Mathematics and English are required.
Assessment
Students will be assessed on a range of practical skills with a practical end test. Additionally students will sit a range of modular exams linked to each of the practical elements of the programme, both internally and externally assessed.
Careers & Progression
On successful completion of this course you may progress to an Apprenticeship in a trade related area. When you have completed your studies other courses that are available include HNC in Construction . Careers that this course may lead to include self-employed bricklayer, site-supervisor, or could lead to a career in construction management.

Equipment Needed
You will be required to have your own Personal Protective Equipment while working in the workshop areas
Extra curricular activities
You will have the opportunity to be entered for the national competion Skillbuild. Success may lead to entry into international competition at Worldskills. You wil have the opportunity to visit Marshall Town Tools to see the manufacture and production of industry standard tools. You will also benefit from a wide range of guest speakers to enrich the curriculum.
