Emma Metcalfe

Counselling and Psychotherapy – Foundation Entry

BC_Quotation

I put off going back into education as I thought I would never handle studying and taking care of my daughter. I did not think I would afford it. I did not realise the amount of help and support out there for people to study a degree.

Emma’s dream is to become a Paramedic (inspired by the amazing care she witnessed by Paramedics caring for her grandfather) – and she’s a step nearer that goal after completing a Foundation Entry degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

That qualification has allowed her progress to Edge Hill University to study Paramedic Science and make her career dreams come true.

Single mum Emma has worked as a Health Care Assistant for 13 years, using the experience she has gained in the Emergency Department of the Royal Blackburn Hospital and in Patient Transport Services to boost her application.

Alongside her degree-level studies, Emma has also been working towards a GCSE in Biology and vital qualifications in Maths and English as an Adult Learner at Burnley College to achieve a coveted place at Edge Hill University.

And every step of the way, she has been helped by expert Lecturers at Burnley College University Courses, empowering her to reach her full potential and grow in confidence.

My advice to anyone thinking of university study is ‘go for it’. Do not think about it for years like I did. Worrying I was too old, there are plenty of older adults starting degrees. By the time I graduate I’ll have at least 20 years’ service in me. Never think you are not good enough. Always believe in yourself.
