Burnley College named ‘Best Employer’ finalist in Red Rose Awards

Burnley College has been named finalist in the Red Rose Awards’ Employer of the Year category.

The hotly-contested category in the annual awars was whittled down to just six finalists by judges who were looking for evidence of engagement with staff alongside support and development of the workforce.

In the award entry, Burnley College demonstrated its passion for people at the heart of all we do, from the robust recruitment process to the wide-ranging benefits that offer a person-centered, well-being approach to positively impact the work life balance.

Industry achievements also formed a large part of the judging process, with our College including its membership of the Government Disability Confident Employer scheme alongside financial support, new starter mentor programme and many other benefits available for each and every staff member.

Judging day recently took place with four members of the team and two adorable Dachshunds from Doggy Day Care facing the Judging Panel at Ewood Park.

Two staff members, Dave Easton and Lisa Ogle spoke passionately about why they enjoy working for Burnley College, from free study opportunities and the enviable staff benefits they enjoy, to the comfort of feeling part of a ‘special family’.

HR Manager Vikki Lees said the judges were taken on a rollercoaster of emotions:

“We don’t think anyone has taken one, let along two dogs to an interview before! We certainly made an impression while showcasing our Doggy Daycare facilities. But when we moved onto talking about the College as a workplace, Lisa and Dave told their own stories of how the College has supported them in a open and honest way. I had to hold back tears when Lisa explained how she came to England, not knowing many people and made friends when she began working here. It was a heart-warming story which she told beautifully and really reflects the College’s values.”

We are looking forward to the awards ceremony on 9 June at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool.
