Breaking The Mould: Top engineer Sally’s story

Name: Sally Duerden
Age: 23
Studied: HNC Mechanical Engineering
From: Burnley
Formerly: St Mary’s College, Blackburn

Upon completing her A Level studies at a local college, Sally Duerden decided that the traditional University route was not for her and she secured a prestigious apprenticeship with aerospace component manufacturers Paradigm Precision in Hapton, Burnley.

Fast forward a few years, and Sally is now completing her HNC level at Burnley College University Courses alongside her role at Paradigm and is about to embark on her HND studies at BCUC.

‘I’ve never looked back,’ said Sally.  I have the best of both worlds.  An interesting and varied job with a leading aerospace company and a taste of student life as I progress through my qualifications at BCUC.’

Sally has her sights firmly set on being a CNC programmer/operator on completion of her studies.  ‘Thanks to my time at BCUC I’ve been able to take advantage of the fantastic engineering facilities, the encouraging tutor support both at college and in the workplace and knowledgeable student services – all of which have helped confirm to me the route I need to take for my chosen career.’
