Ackley Bridge Actor and Burnley College Performing Arts Student has sights set on Hollyoaks

A Burnley College Sixth Form Centre Performing Arts student is setting his sights on Hollyoaks as much-loved comedy drama Ackley Bridge comes to an end.

Abdul Ahad Butt has been playing the character Younis Iqbal in the drama series which has just finishing streaming fifth and final series.

With an average audience of more than 2 million, Abdul has been playing Younis since series 3.

Abdul, 18, from Nelson, a former pupil at Pendle Vale College says he will definitely miss it:

Life on Ackley Bridge was the best thing. Sadly, it has come to an end.
The Ackley Bridge cast and crew are like a big family, so full of wonderful and incredibly knowledgeable people, so saying goodbye was hard.

Abdul says it’s been an invaluable experience for him:

“Being on such a big show has taught me so many things – including life skills alongside professional skills.

“It’s certainly helped me improve my realistic, modern acting skills.

“Because of what the show was about and the fact it was based on real life stories, it has given me an insight into how other people and particularly students around the world may feel.

“The love Ackley Bridge received from all of our supporters around the country, and even the world, made me feel as though there I still hope out there for the industry which is still facing funding being capped or even cut altogether.”

So what’s next for Abdul?

I’m currently looking into Hollyoaks. Like every actor, I’m waiting for my agent to bring me some exciting and challenging auditions.
I’m also really looking forward to joining ‘The Experience Department (TED), creators and of original live shows around the world.
