Supportive tutors help BCUC student Rebecca find her passion

A false start ended up turning into something positive for Rebecca, who went straight into employment after completing Advanced Level studies at Burnley College Sixth Form Centre. Realising that she had made a mistake Rebecca contacted her A Level tutor directly and enrolled immediately on a Business Management degree at Burnley College University Courses.

‘It was the best thing I ever did,’ says Rebecca today. ‘I’m studying something I enjoy and I’ve discovered that I have a true interest and skill in accounting – something I would never have known!’

Studying close to home has also been a big plus to Rebecca. ‘I certainly don’t feel like I’m missing anything by not having gone away to study.  Staying at BCUC has allowed me to have a good work/life balance as it is so accessible. I can develop my life skills alongside a qualification and I’ve been able to hold down a part-time job to ease the financial burden.’

Rebecca praises the supportive tutors who have eased her back into studying – given that it was not her original route of choice and thanks to smaller class sizes she appreciates the extensive one-to-one tutorials with staff who really care about her progress. ‘I hope that the work experience I do will guarantee me a job after my studies and enable me to use the skills I’ve developed on this degree.’
