An exceptional team of performers from Burnley College Dance are set to represent the North West on the national stage this summer at Making Moves National Platform, run by world-renowned performing arts venue Sadler’s Wells.
This talented group of first-year Advanced Vocational Dance learners is one of just eight schools and youth groups from across England specially selected to share their unique creative voices on the Sadler’s Wells East stage as part of YFX 2026 in July.
They’ll be showcasing a dynamic and inventive performance piece titled Out of Line, developed in collaboration with Olivier Award-winning director, choreographer and educator Fin Walker.
Fin’s impressive prior credits include Equus starring Daniel Radcliffe & Richard Griffiths (Gielgud Theatre, 2007), and After The Dance starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Nancy Carroll Helen Banner & Adrian Scarborough (National Theatre, 2010).
Inspired by real experiences of dress codes, mobile phone bans, bag checks and pat-downs, the piece explores young people’s experiences of control, conformity and rebellion within school.
YFX is a vibrant celebration of youth dance across the UK, giving young performers the chance to ‘take over’ Sadler’s Wells for a two-week festival filled with performances, workshops and industry talks including Making Moves.
Burnley College Dance have been working towards this exciting opportunity over the course of the last academic year, receiving iterative feedback from Fin to help them to continuously develop their choreographic and artistic skills along the way.
The group premiered their work-in-progress at Making Moves’ regional platform at The Lowry in Salford in February, where their creation was selected from among the works showcased to represent the North West at the national platform later this year.
The final project will be featured at Sadler’s Wells East on Wednesday 15th July, with the dancers invited to work with professional technical crews on staging and lighting to bring their creative vision to life.
Samantha Allen, Curriculum Manager in Creative Industries and Computing, says that this is a phenomenal opportunity for these budding stars:
“To be selected as one of only eight groups from fifty-two participating schools and youth dance groups in the country is an outstanding achievement and a real testament to the commitment, creativity and talent of our learners.
“Performing at Sadler’s Wells East and continuing to work with Fin Walker provides them with an incredible opportunity to experience the highest standards of professional dance practice, develop as artists, and showcase their work on a national stage.
“We are immensely proud of what they have achieved.”
