The Atrium was transformed into a hub of celebration for Burnley College’s Day of Culture, an event that brought students and staff together from across the college to embrace their cultural backgrounds.
Talented students from the Creative Industries & Computing and ESOL departments organised a fantastic fundraising event that brought together learners from across campus to celebrate cultures from around the world.
The fundraiser event supported New Neighbours, a Burnley-based charity dedicated to helping individuals who are new to the UK settle into the local community.
The lively event featured a range of exciting activities, captivating performances by students. Our refectory hosted a variety of delicious food representing a vibrant mix of cultures from all around the world.
The event was attended by learners across campus as well as members of Burnley Youth Theatre.
Among those who attended were students Kenny and Ola, who proudly represented Nigeria. Both wore traditional beads symbolising Nigerian royalty.
Kenny shared his love for his heritage, saying:
“I love everything about Nigeria, I love the food, the culture. I would say jollof rice is the best Nigerian food, it’s my favourite.”
Ola added: “Something about specifically where we’re from in Nigeria that I really love is the community and togetherness.”
Millie, who represented both Scotland and Greece, reflected on her dual heritage:
“My dad is from Scotland, and my mum is from Greece. I have been to Greece a few times, more Cyprus but I love the food there.”
Burnley College’s Day of Culture was a resounding success, showcasing the richness of diversity within the college community while supporting a meaningful cause.
