Dancers Make Moves Towards Inclusivity with New Collaboration

A talented team of performers at Burnley College are set to take to the regional stage this spring at U.Dance North West, in an energetic and inspiring collaboration with pioneering dance charity DanceSyndrome.

The piece, choreographed by Manchester based director, choreographer & dancer Josh Hawkins – whose impressive prior credits include Barbie (Warner Bros, 2023), Daddy Issues (BBC Three, 2024) and Brassic (Netflix, 2025) – is one of two projects produced by Dance students at Burnley College that has been specially selected to be part of this upcoming showcase.

U.Dance is a regional and national festival which offers exciting performance and workshop opportunities to thousands of young dancers across the UK each year, platforming and supporting the country’s next generation of exceptional dance talent.

Burnley College are proud to be working with DanceSyndrome to represent U.Dance North West as part of a vibrant programme of events and performances taking place at The Lowry in Salford on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 March 2026.

DanceSyndrome is an innovative charity empowering young people with learning disabilities by fostering meaningful community partnerships and providing high quality inclusive dance leadership, participation, performance and training opportunities for its company members.

This collaboration expands on creative workshops that Burnley College hosted for DanceSyndrome last summer, and is a fantastic opportunity for all involved to boost their confidence and gain experience performing in a professional industry setting.

Samantha Allen, Curriculum Manager in Creative Industries and Computing, says that this partnership will also unlock a wealth of career opportunities for the students participating:

“We’re delighted to continue working with DanceSyndrome – their mission to make dance accessible for all is extremely important.

“Being even a small part of the incredible work they do is so rewarding.

“This collaboration is a testament to how welcoming, caring and considerate our students are – something we’re immensely proud of.

“It has also opened their eyes to career pathways within the industry that they might not have considered before.

“The knowledge they have gained around inclusive teaching practices is particularly valuable and is sure to set them up for success in the future.”
