About the course

This course will run on Monday evenings but with sufficient interest there will be classes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.


This is a highly practical course, delivered in our state-of-the art Welding Academy workshop, and will take your welding skills to the next level. It includes knowledge of essential welding techniques and the health and safety required while working in a welding workshop.

You will develop your skills by learning and practising the vertical welding of joints under the guidance of industry expert tutors. You will be required to perform both destructive and non-destructive examination techniques, further enabling you to gain the essential experience and knowledge you will need to progress in your chosen career in manufacturing.

There is an optional welding qualification accredited by the TWI that can run alongside your City and Guilds qualification for an additional cost.

Entry Requirements

You need to have some welding experience and/or qualifications at Level 1. If you are not currently studying our Level 1 programme, an interview will be required to establish your suitability for this course. You will be expected to attend an induction evening on Monday 15/01/2024 at 17:45.

Assessment

You will be required to complete five practical assignments of complete welded joints in standard (vertical) positions and one oral knowledge test for each unit studied.

Careers & Progression

On successful completion of this course you may progress onto the Level 3 Advanced Welding Skills qualification. Careers that this course may lead to include welding and fabrication, steelwork and a variety of roles within civil engineering.

This course is eligible for funding as a Local Flexibility Course. Apply today and we’ll be in touch to give you the individualised support you require to ensure you get the funding you’re entitled to. The maximum amount payable would be £299. A coded welding qualification to BS 4872 is available at an additional cost of £150.
