About the course

In this 15-week course, students will learn the art of cabinet metal fabrication, building upon their existing welding skills. Participants will learn the techniques and principles to design, fabricate, and finish custom metal cabinets. By the end of the course, students will be equipped to:

  1. Understand Cabinet Design: Gain an understanding of cabinet design principles, including measurements, proportions, and aesthetics.
  2. Select Materials: Learn to choose the appropriate metal materials for cabinet construction, considering factors such as durability, appearance, and cost.
  3. Precision Cutting: Develop cutting skills using various tools, ensuring precise and clean cuts for cabinet components.
  4. Welding Mastery: Hone welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, and stick welding, to create strong, visually appealing joints.
  5. Assembly Techniques: Learn how to assemble cabinet components efficiently, ensuring structural integrity and alignment.
  6. Finish and Surface Treatment: Explore various surface treatments and finishes, such as painting, powder coating, and polishing, to enhance the cabinet's appearance and protect against corrosion.
  7. Functional Hardware: Understand the selection and installation of cabinet hardware, including handles, hinges, and locks.
  8. Safety Practices: Continuously prioritise safety in the workshop, using appropriate personal protective equipment and following safety protocols.

Course Structure: This 15-week evening course will combine hands-on practical sessions with theoretical instruction. Each class will consist of:

  • A review of previous welding skills.
  • Instruction on specific cabinet fabrication techniques.
  • Practical work in the workshop, allowing students to apply what they've learned.
  • Group discussions and problem-solving exercises.
  • Guidance on cabinet design and project planning.

Entry Requirements

Completion of a basic welding course or equivalent experience is required to enroll in this advanced cabinet metal fabrication class. Students should have a basic understanding of welding processes and safety protocols.

Additional Details

Equipment Needed

Students are encouraged to bring their own safety gear, such as welding helmets, gloves, and safety glasses. All necessary welding and fabrication equipment will be provided. Materials for the cabinet project are included in the price, however, there will be additional costs if powder coating is desired.

Equipment Supplied

All equipment will be supplied for the project, however, it is advisable to have your own safety equipment such as a welding mask and gloves.

£525 per person, which includes all resources to produce the cabinet.
