About the course

LLB Law with Criminology provides you with the opportunity to obtain a qualifying law degree whilst also gaining an awareness of current issues in criminology. By studying these complimentary subjects side by side you will ensure that you have the academic training required to pursue a career within the legal sector or within a wide range of other professions. The Criminology element to the programme provides academic study of the nature of crime, criminality and responses to crime in contemporary society. It considers how crime is defined, perceived as a problem, and managed in modern society. The aim of the course is to offer the opportunity for intellectual development, to acquire fundamental legal knowledge for progression into the legal profession, the wider employment market or further study and to provide flexibility in developing specialised interests. Year 1 (delivered at Burnley College): The standard full time tuition fee rate for this course in 2023/24 for Home and EU students is £9000 per year. The standard part time tuition fee rate for 2023/24 for Home and EU students is £1000 per 20 credit module. Entry Requirements

 104-112 UCAS is required at A2, DMM BTEC Extended Diploma, T Level grades M. Maths and English GCSE grade C or above / equivalent. 


For the Foundation route you require 64 UCAS points at A2, MPP BTEC Extended Diploma, T Level P (D or E)  Maths and English GCSE grade C or above / equivalent. 

You will also be required to  attend a face to face interview

Modules

Foundation Entry Year - LWC019 Verbal Skills: Rights and Debating, LWC021 Academic Skills for Higher Education, LWC022 Introduction to Law and Policing and options from LWC024 Issues in Family Law, LWC025 Issues in Sociology, LWC028 Issues in Criminology and PSC005 Introduction to Psychology. Year 1 - LW1982 Introduction to Professional Skills and Employability, LW1983 English and EU Legal Systems, LW1984 Criminal Law, LW1985 Contract Law, CJ1204 Crime and Morality, and, CJ1205  Key Approaches to Criminology. Year 2 and 3 - On successful completion of the above studies you can progress onto complete year 2 and 3 at UCLan Preston.

Assessment

This degree comprises of a mixture of lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical sessions and independent study. Independent study is an important aspect of your degree course. The exact combination of study time will be detailed within your module descriptors, and will depend on your option choices. Assessment is undertaken in a variety of ways, from the traditional unseen exam (a professional requirement for all of the core foundation modules), to seen examinations; end of module and in-course formative coursework assessments; e-quizzes; e-case studies; group and individual presentations; portfolios; pod casts; personal development reflective diaries; moots and debates and oral performance in seminars.
