About the course

You will cover a range of topics that will benefit your future career and throughout your learning we'll focus on supporting your professional and personal development whilst exploring the latest research and legislative frameworks so you can be the best practitioner you can be.

In year one we cover child development, the team supporting the child and learning through play whilst in year two we look at children, families and society, inclusion and curriculum principles. You'll finish the course confident in applying your skills and knowledge in your future practice.

Encouraging children to learn through experience and creating a secure environment will be your main responsibilities. You'll learn how to develop young children's curiosity alongside teaching them practical skills.

Entry Requirements

This course is designed for students who have around two years of relevant experience and normally work 15 hours a week or more. Typically, you already need to have one of the following qualifications: NVQ Level 3 Qualification in Children's Care Learning and Development Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education Pre-school Practice and Child-Minding Practice BTEC National Diploma Early Years Current Early Years Educator GCSE maths and English grade C/4 You will be invited for an interview

Modules

Year 1: The Developing Child, Personal and professional Development in Practice 1, the Team around the Child and Young Person, Developing Practice, Play and Playful Pedagogy Year 2: Curriculum: Principles in Practice, Personal and Professional Development in practice 2, Children, families and Societies, Inclusion

Assessment

You will be assessed using a variety of teaching methods to include: formal essays, case studies, report writing, presentations, posters and reflective diaries.

Careers & Progression

On successful completion of this foundation degree, you can choose to top-up to a full degree by studying our BA (Hons) Professional Practice (Working with Children and Young People). With this degree, along with GCSEs in English, Maths and Science, you'll be able to apply for a one-year formal programme of initial teacher training such as a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
