About the course
This course will allow you to gain a full GCSE in Biology and meets the requirements of having a GCSE in Science which you may need if you are applying for midwifery, nursing or primary school teaching. Within this course we teach many topics that are relevant to today's society, including Immunology, Genetics, Ecology, Health and Disease.
This course requires both classroom and lab based teaching, with the opportunity to take part in multiple experiments across the year.
This is a year long course taught in the evening starting in September with exams in May/June. Exam dates are set externally by AQA and we are not in control of when these dates are.

Modules
Unit 1 - Taught from September to December Unit 2 - Taught from December until exam period Practical sills - taught throughout the course. Each unit is worth 50% of the qualification and practical skills are assessed in the written exam
Assessment
There will be two 1hr 45 min written exams at the end of the academic year.
Careers & Progression
A GCSE in Biology will provide you with a key qualification respected by many Higher Education establishments. Courses such as Midwifery, Nursing and Primary Education often list GCSE Biology (Or alternative Science) as a key requirement of study prior to entry.

You will not need any specialist equipment for this course other than a calculator
Equipment Supplied
All specialised equipment needed for experiments will be provided. You will need to purchase a scientific calculator and ruler, and it is recommended that you purchase the course text book. Discounts for this will be made available at the start of the course
