About the course

This occupation is found in the industrial, commercial, and residential construction, engineering, and power industries The broad purpose of the occupation is to install, maintain and repair electrical systems in industrial, commercial and residential environments including communal areas.  

  • Group work and study sessions will cover a wide range of topics including:
  •  Carrying out specified connections on electrical wiring systems and equipment
  • Ensuring safe electrical working
  • Implementing safe site working practices
  • Inspection, testing and commissioning of an electrical installation
  • Preparing, positioning and fixing electrical wiring systems, wiring enclosures and equipment
  • Providing technical and functional information to the relevant people
  • The diagnosis and correction of electrical faults

Entry Requirements

Candidates must have GCSE Grade 4 or above in a range of subjects including GCSE English Language, Mathematics and Science. Applicants must be hardworking, reliable and motivated. As part of the interview process, Apprentices will undertake a BKSB assessment in English, Mathematics and ICT. Applicants who do not meet the exact entry requirements but hold relevant industry experience are encouraged to apply.

Assessment

Knowledge learning outcomes are assessed via on-screen assessments, externally set and marked by the awarding organisation and a range of assignments, projects and written assessments covering theory and practical tasks. Performance learning outcomes will require auditable evidence of competent performance from the workplace which demonstrates your ability against assessment criteria; completing a portfolio of evidence to show this. End-Point assessment (AM2) - completion of a 16.5 hour practical and theory assessment; graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction.
