About the course
Game development is a growing industry that allows individuals to either self-release games as an independent developer or to gain entry into the industry. This course focuses on the designing and building of computer games using industry standard software. You will learn to design 2D and 3D digital graphics, to program computer games, write compelling story lines that give depth to your games, as well as developing entrepreneurial skills to make a living in the industry. We use a variety of theory and practical based approaches to assess you, including reports, presentations and practical assignments.

Five GCSEs at Grade 5 or above in a good range of subjects including English Language or Mathematics OR a relevant Level 2 Diploma with Merit grade or above and a GCSE at grade 5 in English Language or Mathematics.
We use a variety of theory and practical based approaches to assess students including portfolios, reports and practical work such as 2D games and full stand-alone game applications in 3D. There are also four units that are externally assessed.
Careers & Progression
On successful completion of this course you may decide to progress onto an Apprenticeship and then a Higher/Degree Apprenticeship. You will also have the opportunity to progress onto a wide variety of Degree courses. Careers that this course may lead to include Games Designer, Programmer and Graphic Artist.
Extra curricular activities
There are plenty of activities and visits to take part in that will help you achieve your ambitions. Past visits have included: Residentials to Berlin, Paris and London, visits to the Warner Brothers Studios and Bradford Media Museum and visits to gaming expos in Birmingham and Manchester. You will also benefit from a wide range of guest speakers to enrich the curriculum.
