About the course
Develop your raw talent into what you want to achieve. Choose your preferred genre of music whilst exploring a wide selection of relevant and interesting music and music technology related topics. Although practical music skills development is a core aspect of the course, you will also spend time learning to use music software in written and theoretical work often connected to researching and writing reports, or preparing and presenting information. You will learn about the music industry itself and develop skills and knowledge which will prepare you for professional life. This course also contains music-technology related areas: You will explore areas such as live sound, sound recording, sequencing and mixing. Alongside the practical elements of the course, you will spend time learning to use music software in a variety of contexts and develop your understanding of the history of music technology and production.

Entry requirements
Five GCSEs at grade 5 or above including English Language or Mathematics OR a relevant Level 2 Diploma with a Merit grade and a GCSE at grade 5 in English Language or Mathematics. Music GCSE is desirable. Music theory and grades in a chosen instrument are desirable.
Assessment
The course is 100% coursework and comprises of practical and written work. Depending on the nature of the unit being studied assessment could include: the creation of original music, demonstration of live performance skills, research and presentation work, the production of studio recordings, a portfolio of technical skills.
Careers & Progression
On successful completion of this course you may decide to progress onto a wide variety of music careers and music technology related university level courses. These areas could include -music performance, recording studio based roles, the live performance industry, freelance composition, numerous roles in the media and games design industries.

Trips and opportunities at The Grand in Clitheroe. Burnley College also has multiple gig and performance opportunities throughout the year. The College regularly hosts guest lecturers from industry professionals and organise trips to local recording studios and venues.
