About the course
The Level 2 Extended Certificate in Art and Design course explores experimental and creative methods within 2D and 3D communication. These explorations enable skills to be acquired, developing creative practical knowledge and ideas to create art and design outcomes for the set projects. The course will involve working on tutor set and live briefs as well as self-initiated projects across a range of disciplines including Graphic Design, Illustration, Drawing, Painting, 3D Design, Ceramics, Sculpture, Textiles, Print Making, Photography, Installation Art and Contextual studies, enabling you to develop your strengths within a chosen specialist area. Assessment is via coursework, practical assessment and examinations which take place throughout the Academic Year.

A minimum of two GCSEs at Grade 5 or above preferably with a Grade 5 in English Language and Art OR a Level 1 Diploma and GCSE at Grade 5 in English Language PLUS a portfolio of work presented at interview.
Assessment is via coursework, completing assignment work based on common themes blended into all subjects delivered on the study programme. Practical applications of skills are assessed alongside contextual analysis when creating art work ready for assessment on the completion of all project work. Two externally set examinations in line with Edexcel board requirements which take place January to May. Careers & Progression
On successful completion of this course you may decide to progress onto an Extended Diploma course, Apprenticeship and then Higher/Degree Apprenticeship. You will also have the opportunity to progress onto a wide variety of Degree courses. Careers that this course may lead to include Graphic Designer, Artist, Marketing and Photographer.
Extra curricular activities
There are plenty of activities and visits to take part in that will help you achieve your ambitions. Past visits have included: Art galleries visits to London, Liverpool, Manchester, The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Harrogate Knit and Stitch and visiting local Historical sites, Community projects such as painting murals, working within the community to deliver creative activities. You will also benefit from a wide range of guest speakers to enrich the curriculum.
