About the course
This course will enable you to develop an understanding of the relationship between art theory and practice and covers both practical and vocational skills. The second year of study focuses on an individual programme, enabling you to develop your strengths within a chosen specialist area to enable you to build upon your personal creative skills. Assessment is via coursework. The course will involve working on tutor set and live briefs as well as self-initiated projects across a range of disciplines including Graphic Design, Illustration, Drawing, Painting, 3D Design, Ceramics, Sculpture, Textiles, Print Making, Photography, Installation Art and Contextual studies, enabling you to develop your strengths within a chosen specialist area.

Entry requirements
Five GCSEs at Grade 5 or above including English Language. Art (or an equivalent creative subject) at grade 6 or above OR a relevant Level 2 Diploma with a Merit grade PLUS a portfolio of work presented at interview.
Assessment
On this course you will be assessed continually, working through specialist, professional and mandatory units relating to Art and Design. Your assessment also includes a presentation of your work celebrating your creative achievements with an end of year show exhibiting your creative explorations each year of the study programme. The skills acquired within your successful assessments will build your understanding and knowledge to be able to achieve your full potential whilst studying at Burnley College.
Careers & Progression
On successful completion of this course you may decide to progress onto an Apprenticeship or a Higher/Degree Apprenticeship. You will also have the opportunity to progress onto a wide variety of Degree courses. Careers that this course may lead to include Graphic Designer, Photographer, Artist and Product Design.

Extra curricular activities
There are plenty of activities and visits to take part in that will help you achieve your ambitions. Past visits have included: Art galleries in Liverpool, London and local galleries, Community projects, painting murals etc. You will also benefit from a wide range of guest speakers to enrich the curriculum.
