About the course
This course is perfect for those wanting a career in Sport Coaching/Sport teaching OR to pursue a career within a Health and Nutrition forum. Choose your own pathway in Coaching and Physical Education or Health and Nutrition to pursue a career in areas such as Teaching within the Primary or Secondary school provision, Coaching within specialist or specific populations/groups, Sports Therapy, Sports Rehabilitation and Nutrition. Your blended practical and theory studies, led by industry professionals, will help you develop skills and knowledge, assessed through observational practice and course work that can be applied to industry. Be prepared for work experience where you will learn skills and how to directly apply theory to Exercise Science, Health and Lifestyle, Sports Coaching, Principles of Anatomy and Physiology and Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise Development, Coaching fundamentals for specific and special populations.

Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at grade 5 or above including English Language and preferably GCSE Physical Education OR a relevant Level 2 Diploma with a minimum Merit grade profile and a GCSE grade 5 in English Language and preferably Physical Education.
Modules
The two year Extended Diploma programme includes 18 advanced units enabling your direct progression to your chosen University or Employment choice. The Coaching pathway includes subjects such as Sports Coaching Practical team sports, Practical individual sports and technical and tactical skills in sports. Personal Training, Health and Nutrition pathway includes Sports Injuries, Sports Nutrition, Fitness for Sport and Exercise and Coaching for Special Populations.
Assessment
There are no exams on this programme as the vocational extended diploma is assessed via coursework where you will create a portfolio of evidence to show your practical application of the required 18 units. A large proportion of your assessments will be from observed practice demonstrating the application of the theory within practical settings.
Careers & Progression
A University Degree such as Sports Coaching, Sports Health, Nutrition and Physical Activity or Strength and Conditioning with Personal Training. This could lead to careers in Coaching and Physical Education in School programmes, Health and Personal Training, Sports Therapy, Sports Nutrition and Rehabilitation and Sports Management.

Extra curricular activities
There are plenty of activities and visits to take part in that will help you achieve your ambitions including visits to the English Institute of Sport, Manchester Velodrome, Rock and River Outdoor Educational Centre, Chill Factor E in Manchester and the annual trip to Sweden to take part in the Gothia World Youth Cup Tournament. There will be additional opportunities to attend overseas trips such as Club La Santa (warm weather training camp) and European ski trips. Specialised training sessions for Coaching Fundamentals are offered to enhance practice with specific groups delivered by industry specialists.
