About the course
During this 30-week pre-advanced course you will expand your sewing skills and techniques by completing several projects, both written and practical. These include researching the theme on the brief and producing a sketchbook of design development followed by creating your own products to your own design. Completing these tasks will develop both your creative techniques alongside building upon your knowledge of product planning, marketing and construction. Your research will explore the creative industries, current trends and popular designers work as well as learning basic fabric/ textile information. This will enable you to advance your own creative ideas and practical skills during the course by designing and producing your own product.

Entry Requirements
No qualifications are required. There is also an expectation that you have a good amount of sewing experience and can effectively set up and use a sewing machine. It may be an advantage to complete the 'Intro to Sewing' 10 week course prior to commencing the Level 2 qualification.
Modules
NCFE Certificate in Creative Craft (Level2) (601/3232/2) Unit 1 Use materials tools and equipment to develop craft techniques. Unit 2 Understand the market within the chosen craft area. Unit 3 Develop craft ideas. Unit 4 Create present and evaluate final craft item.
Assessment
The course is formally assessed throughout and there will be summative assessment at the end of the course. The result is a Pass or Fail. There is a reasonable amount of written work and personal evaluations within the course and these are formally assessed as the course progresses. You will present a sketchbook and digital portfolio, a file and a selection of sewn products and samples. You are given feedback on these as you progress. Activity sheets are available for the students to record their learning throughout each of the units. These forms are available from the NCFE website and are also used in the final assessments.
Careers & Progression
This course will improve your sewing skills, allowing you take a more independent approach to your creative journey. Commercial Foundation/Intermediate/advanced courses are available to allow you the opportunity to further advance your skills.
Additional Details
Equipment Supplied
We have several domestic and industrial sewing machines, industrial over lockers and a selection of sewing and pattern cutting equipment for use in our fashion studio. The large studio table offers room to work effectively and safely.
