About the course
The media and cultural industries contribute over £101bn to the UK economy every year and are central to our society, culture and politics. This course enables you to develop a critical understanding of the media through engagement with a range of media products and contexts, and through the creative application of production skills. Experience gained on this course is an essential grounding for a career within various industries where media is now commonplace. Media Studies gives you the opportunity to gain a theoretical understanding of how the media operates within contemporary society and will develop your ability to respond to it critically. You will analyse and explore a full range of texts from print through to digital and social media, applying key theories and engaging in current media debates which affect all of our lives.

At least six GCSEs at grade 5 or above in a good range of subjects, including both English and Mathematics. Additional entry requirements for this course are: Candidates must have a minimum of grade 5 in GCSE English, though a 6 grade is preferred.
This course is assessed in the following way: 30% practical coursework 70% external examination.

On successful completion of this course you can progress onto a huge range of Media-related degree courses. You may also wish to choose a Higher/Degree Apprenticeship. These courses will help prepare you for a career in a variety of media industries including TV & Radio, Film, Journalism, Advertising, the Music Industry and Gaming.
