About the course

The course is designed to give you an overview of all of the Emergency and Military Public Services. You will prepare for a future career within a Uniformed Service by completing numerous employment documents including a CV and application form. You will be expected to participate fully in practical fitness activities undertaking a varied range of fitness assessments required to enter the Services. Other key skills will include understanding basic discipline through a range of theory and practical activities and developing essential employability skills such team work, communication, punctuality and navigational skills by undertaking expeditions. Throughout the course, you will participate in trips, visits and activities that will enhance your knowledge of a Uniformed Service, in order to make an informed career decision.

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 5 or above including English Language and Maths OR a relevant Level 2 Diploma with a Merit grade and a GCSE grade 5 in English Language and Maths.

Modules

The course gives you the necessary skills and knowledge to understand the requirements of working in the Uniformed Public Services. The course will include preparing for a career, exploring the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion, understanding conflict management and personal protection, understanding discipline and self-discipline, exploring security procedures across various Services, taking part in volunteering to develop communication skills, developing physical and mental fitness by researching and participating in fitness assessments and land-based activities to enter and work within a Uniformed Service, enhancing current skills in leadership and teamwork by being disciplined to follow a routine, being aware of the role of crime scene investigators, valuing the importance of collaboration between Uniformed Services, developing awareness of the impact the law and legal system has on Uniformed Services, understanding emergency planning and the response of the Uniformed Services and carrying out expeditions to improve map and navigation skills.

Assessment

Assessment across the Level 3 course is varied to develop key skills required to enter a Uniformed Service. These methods can include the following: coursework, active learning tasks, practical learning tasks, case studies, reports, role plays, discussions, table top exercises and presentations. Assessment is varied based on the units studied with the overall aim of developing a well rounded individual ready to progress to a higher level of study or employment. You will be assessed continually throughout the academic years to track progress and development.

Careers & Progression

Upon successful completion of Year 1, you will progress onto Year 2 of the study programme. Upon successful completion of Year 2, you could progress to University, study an Intermediate or Advanced Apprenticeship Programme or apply to enter a Uniformed Public Service.

Advice and guidance on appropriate kit and excursion costs will be provided at enrolment.

Extra curricular activities

Trips can include but are not exclusive to an Army residential, Navy/ Marines residential, Fire and Rescue Service visit, RAF team building visit and Police visit. Additional trips to further enhance learning will be incorporated to support units studied, for example court and prison visits, a London trip to visit the Houses of Parliament. Integrated into the Level 3 course is the opportunity to complete and achieve the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.
