About the course

The level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner is a one year course which is designed to allow you to gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to work in early years. The 4 themes will engage and support you on your journey, providing you with knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to 7 years with applied knowledge in the early years. This, along with industry experience in early years settings and primary schools offers the foundations of a career in early childhood.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language or Mathematics at grade 4 OR a relevant Level 1 Diploma with a Merit grade or above and a GCSE at grade 4 in English Language or Mathematics. This course is subject to a cleared enhanced DBS check.

Assessment

The course is assessed through internally and externally assessed coursework over varied themes. This will include case studies, information booklets, essays and discussion based exercises. Your practical performance will also be assessed on a regular basis in your early years’ settings. You will be required to carry out a work placement of at least 250 hours which Burnley College will organise.

Careers & Progression

Learners can progress to a level 3 qualification course or they can go straight into employment as a level 2 early years practitioner.

Extra curricular activities

During the course we hold an inspiration events where several guest speakers come visit College to talk about their careers. This gives students a wide appreciation of the different vocations within childcare. Disneyland Paris has been enjoyed by several of our learners, giving an insight in to how children learn and how development can be promoted in various ways.
