About the course
This qualification is suitable for anyone wanting to progress into a career in welding or fabrication. Within the course you will study a range of units giving you the the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to progress to a higher level or seek employment.
The units studied during this course are:
Working in Engineering
Principles of Engineering Technology
Welding by MIG processes
Fabricating sheet metal work
Fabricating steelwork assemblies
Entry Requirements
The entry requirements for this course are 4 grade 3 GCSEs including maths and English.
Modules
Working in \Engineering (M), Principles of engineering technology (M), Principles of fabrication and welding technology (M), Welding by MIG processes, Fabricating sheet metal work, Fabricating steel work assemblies.
Assessment
Assessment is through assessed practical tasks, short answer written questions and multiple choice tests.
Careers & Progression
This course will be suitable for those wishing to apply for an apprenticeship in welding or fabrication. Learners who pass the Level 2 course will be able to progress onto the Level 3 course.
Additional Details
Equipment Needed
Fire retardant safety boots.
Equipment Supplied
Flame resistant overalls, welding gauntlets, reactive welding masks. All welding materials and consumables
Extra curricular activities
Learners will engage in off site visits to companies such as Grahams Engineering and other local companies. Trips and visits to engineering shows will be organised and available to attend throughout the year.
