About the course
This is a 2 year advanced level course that meets demand for skills in the growing Esports industry (the global esports market is valued at $655 million and is expected to reach $2 billion in 2022). Esports offers a unique opportunity to study a sector that crosses over multiple subject areas such as sport, marketing, enterprise, IT and the creatives.The qualification is aimed at learners who want to progress to employment in the esports industry, either via an apprenticeship, or higher education. This is a career-focused qualification endorsed by the British Esports Association as being suitable for learners who want to work in the industry. This means that it will be recognised by employers and will support entry into the industry & in a range of roles. The course consists a breadth of transferable skills that enable learners to experience different areas of esports to aid their progression to employment, such as live stream broadcasting, producing an esports brand, shoutcasting, social media, video production, event management, enterprise & entrepreneurship and games design. The skills acquired translate to other areas of business such as marketing and brand management. There are 15 internally assessed units assessed through a range of practical & portfolio work. The college works in partnership with Burnley FC as the pro team development squad, and compete as the Burnley FC Esports Academy Bees.

The course is 100% coursework and has no external assessment. Learners will produce analysis reports, presentations, pitches for business, YouTube tutorial videos, and live stream broadcasting as methods of assessment. Learners get ongoing feedback throughout the projects as well as summative feedback at the end of each unit.
Careers & Progression
Most students go on to study Esports or a business course at university, others will find apprenticeships within the industry. We also have students that move directly into industry. The course is designed so that students can move into any Esports sector for their career. It allows the students a broad range of skills in across the Esports industry. Jobs include, esports player, team coach, events organiser, shoutcaster and presenter, social media influencer, video production editor, photographer, data analysts.
Access to a laptop/computer and an internet connection
The college has a dedicated esports arena, with extremely highpowered gaming PCs, mice, keyboards and latest gen consoles. You will also use media studios for photography, filming, editing and streaming. These include studio lighting, cameras and tripods as well as green screens. We have multiple Apple Mac suites all with the full Adobe Creative Cloud installed. Learners will also have access to Adobe Creative Suite via the cloud at home
Extra curricular activities
Learners on the course will be invited to join our Esports team competing in the British Esports Student Champs. There is also the chance to attend national Esports events.
