Caring, compassion, and commitment are all qualities needed to care for all types of people. If you have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people from all walks of life, Level 2 Health and Social Care could be the start of your professional journey.

 

This is a one-year study program that will help you develop both academically and professionally, allowing you to understand the underpinning skills of the healthcare profession. Throughout this course, students will use a range of assessment methods aimed at linking the theory to practice or the "why" to "how". The placement of your choice will help to digest the vast opportunities available upon the completion of your studies. There is a strong emphasis on working with others and the importance of effective communication, both with other professionals and service users.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade 5 or above in addition to GCSE English Language at grade 3 or above OR a relevant Level 1 Diploma and a GCSE at Grade 3 in English Language and Mathematics.

Modules

Topics covered include; Equality, diversity and rights in health and social care Human Growth and Development Safeguarding and protection in health and social care Communication in health and social care Working in health and social care Mental health and well-being Creative activities in health and social care All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods which could include: written assignments or tasks such as designing a leaflet or booklet, charts or diagrams or setting up an information board or an in class presentation.

Assessment

The qualification will be awarded to learners who achieve an approved combination of units through a Portfolio of Evidence that has been successfully verified and monitored through NCFE's Qualifications’ Quality Assurance process. Achievement is therefore determined by successful completion of unit assessment with no further requirement for additional/summative assessment

Careers & Progression

On successful completion of this course, you can progress to a Level 3 Health and Social Care or a Level 2 Childcare and Education course and then onto a variety of Degree courses; to a Higher or Degree Apprenticeship or directly into a career, Alternatively, this course could also help you progress on to an Apprenticeship. Careers that this course may ultimately lead to include: Care assistant NHS roles Teaching Students may also wish to progress into various industries, where a range of opportunities are available. The transferable skills embedded within the course may open up opportunities in a variety of different sectors.

Extra curricular activities

Students have the opportunity to engage with multiple activities designed to enrich their time at college and to develop skills and knowledge that fall outside of the specification. Additional subject-specific activities and visits are organised to bring learning to life and help you achieve your ambitions. You will also enjoy seminars and workshops led by guest speakers. Past and planned activities and visits have included: Fundraising for a local charity. Team building exercises within the community.
