About the course

The HND Public Services, is studied on a full-time basis. The course provides a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required in their sector, placing strong emphasis on the effective use and combination of both knowledge and skills. Students will develop their skills, techniques and attributes essential for successful performance in working life. Ideal for those employed in a variety of roles, The Higher National Diploma is referenced against professional body standards and meet the mandatory qualification requirements of the Level 5 Technician Scientist Higher Apprenticeship standard, providing apprenticeship status and progression to direct employment.

Entry Requirements

HNC or equivalent qualification in a related subject area. Maths and English GCSE grade 4 or equivalent You will also need to complete a face face to face interview.

Modules

At Level 5 there are two core units, which includes one unit assessed by a Pearson-set assignment. The units are: Research project and Reflective professional practice. The specialist modules include: Management of an Outdoor Event, Advanced Fitness and Health, Expedition Planning, Youth Offending and Work based experience.

Assessment

All students on the HND Public Services will experience a variety of assessment methods, including both written and practical tasks. Specific examples include presentations, essays, reports, in-class tests and practical projects.

Careers & Progression

On successful completion of the Pearson BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Public Services students can develop careers in the public services sector through: • Entering employment: Police Officer – not a direct entry route from 2020 Fire Service Officer, Justice Services – Youth Justice/Probation Officer, Civil Servant Education – Finance Assistant, Faculty Officer, Programme Support Officer, Community Worker • Continuing existing employment • Higher Education to include: BA (Hons) Criminology, BA (Hons) Policing, BA (Hons) Public Services, BA (Hons) Public Services Management, BSc (Hons) Applied Social Sciences, BA (Hons) Leadership in the Public Sector, BA (Hons) Sociology and Criminology, BA (Hons) Uniformed and Public Services, BSc (Hons) Public Services and the Community, BSc (Hons) Fire and Rescue.
