About the course

This course is highly regarded by employers and academic institutions alike, preparing students for a career in Social Work and Community Work based industries or a stepping stone to higher level study. The programme gives a comprehensive general introduction to working with families, mental heath, social and community work practices. 

 

The entry criteria for the course is: A Level 3 qualification in a related health and social care subject area. All applicants will need to show that they have GCSE Maths and English with a minimum grade C/4. All applicants will be interviewed. A DBS will also be required.

Entry Requirements

Modules

Mandatory modules are: A Pearson-set Project, law, Policy and Ethical Practice in Health and Social Care; Demonstrating Professional Principles and Values in Health and Social Care; Mental Health and Wellbeing; Evidence Based Practice; Social Work Principles; Understanding Human Behavior. One optional unit from Inspiring Young People; Youth and Community Work; Social and Contemporary Issues.

Assessment

Teaching. learning and assessment on this course has been specially designed to help students build their knowledge between modules and between academic and work-based activities. Teaching is delivered through a mixture of formal lecturers by industry experts, seminars, workshops, case studies and placements; to apply theory into practice. Assessment involves a combination of coursework and presentation exercises.

Careers & Progression

On completion of the course, students will have the opportunity to progress onto the HND in Social and Community Work. Students can also progress onto BA (Hons) Social Work or BSc (Hons)Health and Social Care.
