About the course

The Level 1 Game Art, Esports & Media course is a foundational sequence of studies which provides learners with the fundamentals in understanding the creative digital media industry. With particular focus on; organisational skills, working in groups and teams, filmmaking, design, basic animation and marketing within the media sector. It also provides an entry into using digital equipment to create digital content. It is a practical course with theoretical elements which contextualise and compliment the practical elements. It is a project based course which has no exam conditions included. Learners create individual course work for each unit through projects. Specialist tutors, with industry experience, support learners throughout the course to develop creative content and further their understanding of digital equipment, whilst promoting learners to develop professional practice. This course is designed to be a pathway for learners to progress onto level 2 courses. With specific relevance to Game Art and Design, Esports or Creative Digital Media.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of two GCSEs at Grade 3 or above including English Language and/or Mathematics.

Modules

Unit A1:Being Organised, Unit A2:Developing a Personal Progression Plan, Unit A3: Working with Others, Unit A4: Researching a Topic, Unit AD8:Designing a Product, Unit AD 10:Creating a Moodboard, Unit B7:Branding a Product, Unit DM9:Creating an Animation, Unit DM6:Designing an Interactive Presentation & Unit DM10: Shooting a Short Film.

Assessment

This course is 100% course work based. It is assessed through a unit criteria driven specification. Comprised of 10 units. Learners receive grades for each individual unit which combined produce a final overall grade.

Careers & Progression

Learners studying this course will gain a BTEC level 1 qualification at the end of their studies. This will facilitate progression onto BTEC level 2 courses and BTEC level 3 courses thereafter. It will provide learners with the foundation skills that are imperative for successful continued employment in the industry.

Equipment Needed

All essential equipment is provided by the college. Learners are recommended to provide their own headphones (with a stereo jack plug).

Equipment Supplied

Burnley College has areas dedicated to support learners in the creative digital spectrum. We have a Game Design studio featuring computing equipment which uses industry standard software. We have Media studios that are suitable for both stills photography and video. We have two high end studios for esports, which can support online esports tournaments. All hardware and software requirements. Are provided by college.

Enrichment Activities

Learners have access to many extra curricula events and activities. They are encouraged to use these as a beneficial service to support their overall development as individuals into adulthood.
