About the course

Environmental Studies is the investigation of the planet, including its location within our solar system, answering questions such as why life exists on the planet and the ecological impact of human behaviour. We look at case studies involving extinct animals, threatened animals and the impact of cities on the planet. The aim of this course is to give students a holistic view of conservation of the planet in its entirety. The course covers a wide range of topics and issues including: Conservation of Life on Earth, Methods of Conservation, Rainforest and Antarctica Conservation, Ecological Relationships between Organisms and Atmosphere, Human Resources, Exploitation and Sustainability.

Entry Requirements

At least six GCSEs at grade 5 or above in a good range of subjects, including both English and Mathematics. Additional entry requirements for this course are: At least a double grade 6 in GCSE Science (Dual Award).

On successful completion of this course you may decide to progress onto an Apprenticeship or a Higher/Degree Apprenticeship. You will also have the opportunity to progress onto Degree courses. Careers that this course may lead to include working in STEM industries of Engineering, Food, Health, Conservation and Energy. You may also work in Media and Leisure industries.

Extra curricular activities

You will be given the opportunity to take part in a range of visits and residentials during the course, including visits to Malham and Towneley Park to see how the skills learned during the course can be applied to a working context. You will also benefit from a wide range of guest speakers to enrich the curriculum.
