About the course
On this course you will experience a range of Engineering activities which reflect industry practice and cover multiple disciplines within the field of Engineering. You will learn how to work safely in a workshop environment and as part of a team. You will find out about the different aspects of Engineering, their applications and their impact on the growth of the modern world. Level 1 Engineering will guide you through your first steps on the path to becoming an Engineer. The course can enable progression to higher levels of study and many of our students go on to gain Apprenticeships and positions in prestigious universities after working through their diplomas.

Two GCSEs at grade 3 or above including Mathematics OR a relevant Foundation Learning qualification including GCSE grade 3 in Mathematics.
You will learn about many areas of Engineering including the Manufacturing elements of both Mechanical and Electrical disciplines, the safety factors which govern these and the development of products including experience with Computer Aided Design. You will also be studying and working towards a Level 2 in both Maths and English.
You will be assessed through a variety of methods including assignments, observed practical tasks and presentations. You will receive constructive feedback on your work and will be given the support and guidance to fulfill your potential.
Careers & Progression
This course will prepare you for progression to a Level 2 Engineering programme including mechanical engineering, weld and fabrication or alternatively an Apprenticeship. On successful completion of the course and further study, typical careers include mechanical engineer, CNC operator, toolmaker, aircraft fitter and composites engineer.
Extra curricular activities
You will have the opportunity to attend a range of trips, visits and guest speaker seminars. Previous trips have included, volunteering project in Thailand, a number industry trips in and around East Lancashire, paintballing, tour of Manchester City's stadium and the Museum of Science and Industry.
