About the course

The course explores the exciting multi-disciplinary field of Countryside management. You will develop the knowledge and specialised skill set required to work with the sector. Countryside management is a broad subject area where you will able develop the knowledge and skills to understand the consequences on the environment of growing populations and high-standards of living. This course provides a variety of exciting opportunities working with a variety of organisations including the National Trust, Canals and rivers trust alongside other local farms and community groups.  All of these experiences will help you to develop an understanding of environmental conservation and its impact on our surroundings. Field trips are a key part of this study programme and include visits to coastal, land-based and countryside environments. You will also develop practical and analytical skills and be able to apply the knowledge gained on the field trips in our state of the art laboratories and facilities. The course offers you an insight into subjects at the heart of countryside and environment, including ecology and conservation, estate management, environmental and coastal issues, woodland, plants and soil science.

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 5 or above in a good range of subjects including English Language or Mathematics OR a relevant Level 2 Diploma with a Merit grade or above and a GCSE at grade 5 in English Language or Mathematics.

Assessment

Assessment is via coursework and practical work experience in diverse environmental settings. For those studying the level 3 countryside course, students will also be assessed externally with three exam units.

Careers & Progression

On successful completion of this course you may progress to an an Apprenticeship or a range of Degree courses. Careers that this course may lead to include sustainability consultant, animal migration engineer, vertical farmer, marine biologist, landscape gardener, grounds-person and greenkeeper.
