About the course

Begin your journey into the art and design industry.

The course explores experimental and creative methods in 2D, 3D and Digital Art and Design. These explorations enable skills to be acquired, developing creative practical knowledge and ideas to create art and design outcomes for the set projects set by the tutors and external clients. Themes are current and engaging on the projects set, building upon life skills and work experiences. The course will involve working on tutor sets and live briefs as well as self-initiated projects across a range of disciplines, enabling you to develop your strengths within all subject areas. Assessment is via coursework and practical assessment throughout the academic year. The course is about building strengths and confidence enabling positive opportunities for progression to be put in place.

Entry Requirements

Two GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English OR a relevant Foundation Learning qualification including GCSE grade 3 in English plus a portfolio of work presented at interview.

Assessment

This course explores experimental and creative methods within 2D and 3D communication. These acquired skills help to develop practical knowledge and ideas to create art and design outcomes in response to set projects. Assessment is via coursework and practical assessments. The ethos of the course is to extend and explore creative opportunities within the Creative Arts and Media, a vocationally related qualification where learners develop knowledge and understanding by applying their learning and skills in a work-related context. Whilst increasing your existing skills, extending your creative applications and building confidence within your creative journey whilst studying at Burnley College.

Careers & Progression

On successful completion of this course, you may decide to progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design, your next step toward your career in art, design, or fashion. The Level 1 course will provide you with opportunities to explore a wide range of specialisms to build on your aspirations for a career in art & design.

Additional Details

Equipment Needed

You will need a sketchbook and some art materials to allow you to work independently. An equipment list will be provided at the beginning of the course.

Equipment Supplied

Our open plan studios provide a contemporary, industry focussed working environment. You will have access to suites of iMacs, Photographic Studio and Dark Room, as well as Specialist 3D, Textile and Print-Making materials and equipment.

Extra curricular activities

As an Art & Design student, you will have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of activities to enhance your studies, including visits to art exhibitions at national and international venues, participating in the College Creative Arts and Media showcase events, and taking part in art & design activities to contribute to your community.
