About the course

Are you currently working in or would like to work in the science industry? If so, this Apprenticeship will enable you to successfully reach the next level as a science laboratory technician. This Apprenticeship is designed to develop your skills as a technician so you can advance your career to more senior technical roles. Science laboratory technicians cover a wide range of roles from those who support scientists and engineers in research and development to those who provide quality assurance, or analytical science services. You may work in a school, college or university or for one of the largest global business organisations within the science industry.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of two GCSEs at Grade 5 or above. Applicants must be hardworking, reliable and motivated. As part of the interview process, Apprentices will undertake a BKSB assessment in English, Mathematics and ICT. Applicants who do not meet the exact entry requirements may also be considered.

Assessment

You will continuously be assessed in your workplace through portfolio producing written work and work based evidence to demonstrate current practice in your sector. Your performance in your role will be observed by your Trainer Assessor, as well as through professional discussion and assessment of written work, reflective accounts of skills developed, witness statements and recognition of prior learning where appropriate. Assessment may also include BTEC assignments throughout the course. Your Functional Skills are assessed through a written examination.

Careers & Progression

On successful completion of this course you may progress to a higher level course such as the HNC in Chemical Industries, or a university course such as a Foundation Degree, or a BA (Hons), or secure employment in potentially a large global business organisation.
