Burnley College Students and Pendleside Hospice Join Forces in Sustainable Fashion Revolution

Burnley College’s Vocational Business Studies Students teamed up with Pendleside Hospice to create a pop up shop as part of their Rewear Revolution campaign.

The initiative saw our Students experience real-life business decisions, utilising their skills across a wide range of key tasks as part of the innovative fundraising mission.

Students handpicked stock, in preparation for their pop up shop and took charge of the marketing, pricing, ironing and beautifully merchandised their stock to maximise sales and raise as much money as possible for Pendleside Hospice. This really enabled the students to put into practice in real life, the Business, employability and digital skills learned during their course.

While it was the first time the students had embarked on such a project, the results were astounding. Over the two-day event, students raised an impressive £1,319.50, with purchases made by both staff and fellow students.

The proceeds will go towards the invaluable care of our patients and the services Pendleside Hospice provide to people living within Burnley, Pendle & Rossendale.

Louisa Mayor, Head of Income Generation at the Hospice, said they are thrilled with the remarkable success:

“The students and staff at Burnley College demonstrated bags of enthusiasm, drive, and creativity, making it an enormous success. Being able to engage the students in this meaningful project is truly priceless.

“We’re so fortunate to have the support and buy-in not only from our community and staff & students at college, but from our local businesses too. Due to the collaborative success of Burnley College’s two-day event, Boohoo kindly donated more of their clothing to help stock our retail shops, as well as support with future events at Burnley College.

Fiona Gibson, Skills and Innovation Lead at Burnley College added:

“We are so proud and excited about our new and progressive relationship between Pendleside Hospice and boohoo. Students were blown away at the amount raised during our pilot pop up!

We’re looking forward to our plans over the next academic year to support the Hospice in their mission, by supporting our community and students during a cost of living crisis, and promoting sustainability in fast fashion for the Rewear Revolution campaign!”

Pendleside Hospice extends its heartfelt appreciation to We Love Creative, Burnley College students, and boohoo for their unwavering support and commitment to the Rewear Revolution campaign.

Collectively, we are making a significant impact by promoting sustainable shopping practices, transforming perceptions about charity shops, and raising vital funds for Pendleside Hospice.
