Supporting the Armed Forces community – Burnley College earns prestigious Silver Award

Burnley College is extremely proud to be awarded the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award for 2025.

This award recognises our commitment to providing a long-term support to the Armed Forces community. 

The Silver Award comes following Burnley College signing up to the Armed Forces Covenant in May 2024, a move which underlines our focus and commitment to supporting the Forces through courses and specialised training. 

Burnley College have demonstrated exceptional support for reservists, veterans and military families and this prestigious award recognises our dedication to supporting the community. Burnley College offers specialised courses, from engineering to fitness, beauty therapy to teaching.  

Kate Wallace, Interim Principal at Burnley College said: 

“We are honoured to have received The Silver Award, it encourages us to simultaneously support and go above and beyond for The Forces. We are dedicated to providing additional support and being recognised for our services is extremely rewarding.” 

Major General Jamie Gordon, Chief Executive of the Council of Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Associations said: 

“Our Silver Award winners don’t just talk about support—they show it, every day, through flexible policies, visible advocacy, and long-term commitment to those who serve.  

“This is about more than good intentions, it’s about practical, sustained support.” 

Burnley College continues our mission to provide exceptional support to ensure that our resources help and empower the Armed Forces Community. 

Burnley College will accept the trophy at the Silver Awards evening on 14 July.
