The SafeZone app gives all staff and students fast, easy access to help whenever it’s needed—whether on campus, teaching or visits off-site.
With just a tap, you can alert our security team to an emergency, request first aid, or ask for general assistance, and your location will be shared securely so our team can respond quickly and efficiently.
SafeZone also supports reporting and timely updates during any campus-wide incidents.
Your privacy is carefully protected—your location is only visible when you actively request help or check in.
By using SafeZone, we can all contribute to a safer, more connected Burnley College community.
The app features three main buttons, each designed for specific types of assistance. Their uses are explained below:
The First Aid button should be used if you or someone else needs immediate medical assistance. When pressed, our command centre is alerted along with your location, and a trained first aider will be dispatched to assist.
The command centre may also contact you by phone or message to gather additional details before sending help.
The Emergency button should only be used if urgent assistance is required or if you witness a serious incident on site, such as an armed intruder.
When activated, the command centre is immediately notified and will contact you by phone or message to gather further details before dispatching the appropriate staff to manage the situation.
Where possible, always use the call feature of the Emergency button, as this allows information to be relayed quickly. If calling is not possible, the text feature can be used instead.
The Switchboard feature connects you directly to our switchboard team, who can assist with general, non-emergency enquiries or urgent but non-critical issues.
They can then put you in touch with the relevant staff member or department to provide the support you need.
If an incident occurs on campus that requires your attention, or there’s an urgent message for all staff and students, the SafeZone app will alert you instantly. This ensures you receive important updates quickly, helping everyone stay informed and safe.
The app also includes additional features designed to help keep you and others safe while on campus, providing extra support and reassurance in a variety of situations.
If you notice anything in college that is hazardous, damaged, or not working correctly, you can use the Report Something feature. This will guide you to the appropriate reporting system within the college, ensuring the relevant staff are notified to address and resolve the issue promptly.
The Check-In Timer allows you to set a timer when working alone or off-site. If you do not cancel or check in before the timer expires, an alert will be sent to the command centre so they can ensure your safety. This feature provides added reassurance when working in potentially vulnerable situations.
The Check Out and Check In feature lets you notify the command centre when you leave and return to campus or a work location. This helps staff keep track of your safety, especially when working alone or off-site, and ensures timely assistance can be provided if needed. First Aid staff and Fire Wardens should always be checked in while on site so they can be contacted to support any incidents. Automatic check-in can also be activated via the Settings button for added convenience.
THE APP DOES NOT REPLACE THE EMERGENCY SERVICES – IF FACED WITH AN EMERGENCY SITUATION YOU SHOULD CALL 999 FIRST.
