A gruelling 45-mile run with over 6,000ft of climbing in one day – That’s how Burnley College’s Assistant Principal will be spending her Saturday.
Nina Parkin, who is Assistant Principal for University and Adult Education will complete an epic Pendle Way in a Day across the beautiful South Pennines moorlands, raising vital funds for Pendleside Hospice.
This thrilling and demanding challenge is designed to test the resilience of even the most seasoned walkers and runners and will be the longest running challenge that Nina has ever embarked on.
Nina has already raised over double her initial goal of £500 and is now looking to raise as much as possible to support the hospice in providing specialised care to local patients with life-limiting illnesses.
The expert Strength and Conditioning team at Fitness Evolution have been supporting Nina in her preparations – sweat, determination and the occasional “why am I doing this?” moment are all very much part of the plan.
Nina’s inspiring commitment to her fundraising efforts echoes the camaraderie and competitive spirit shown by staff, students and the wider community that saw Burnley College named Corporate Challenge Champion by Pendleside Hospice last year.
Looking ahead to the challenge, Nina shared:
“Having this opportunity to push my personal limits while doing something I love is fantastic, but being able to give back to my community at the same time is even more rewarding.
“I’m honoured to play a small part in supporting the extraordinary services that Pendleside Hospice provide.
“Challenges like this remind us just how much we can achieve – physically and as fundraisers!”
The Pendle Way in a Day challenge takes place on Saturday 7 February.
