Pushing Limits: Assistant Principal Tackles 45-Mile Charity Run

A gruelling 45-mile run with over 6,000ft of climbing in one day – that’s how Burnley College’s Assistant Principal spent her Saturday.

Nina Parkin, who is Assistant Principal for University and Adult Education, completed the epic Pendle Way in a Day challenge across the beautiful South Pennines moorlands, raising vital funds for Pendleside Hospice.

This thrilling and demanding endeavour is designed to test the resilience of even the most seasoned walkers and runners and is the longest running challenge that Nina has ever embarked on.

Nina raised £1,300 – over double her initial goal of £500 – to support the hospice in providing specialised care to local patients with life-limiting illnesses.

The expert Strength and Conditioning team at Fitness Evolution supported Nina in her preparations along the way – sweat, determination and the occasional “why am I doing this?” moment were all very much part of the plan.

Nina’s inspiring commitment to her fundraising efforts echoes the camaraderie and competitive spirit shown by staff, students and the wider community that saw Burnley College named Corporate Challenge Champion by Pendleside Hospice last year.

Having successfully conquered the challenge, Nina shared:

“Having this opportunity to push my personal limits while doing something I love has been fantastic, but being able to give back to my community at the same time is even more rewarding.

“I’m honoured to play a small part in supporting the extraordinary services that Pendleside Hospice provide.”

“Challenges like this remind us just how much we can achieve – physically and as fundraisers!”
