Governor Roles

At Burnley College, we’re committed to shaping the future of education. If you’re a strategic thinker ready to make a real impact, we’d be delighted to welcome your expertise as we enter our next chapter of growth.

This is a chance to put your leadership skills to work where they really matter. As a governance leader with us, you’ll help shape our direction, support our students and staff and play a key part in upholding the standards and values of Burnley College.

We’re looking for experienced, independent professionals to join us in these important roles:

Finance/Audit Committee Member

As an Audit Committee Member, you’ll play a crucial role in safeguarding the College’s integrity. Your insight will help us make informed decisions on risk management, internal controls, and audit procedures. With your support, we’ll continue to meet our statutory responsibilities and use public funding with the highest level of accountability.

Take this opportunity to make a real difference for education and the wider community – your experience and insight can help shape Burnley College’s legacy for years to come.

Further Education Governor

This role is ideal for someone with experience in senior FE education or leadership, who can use their understanding of learning outcomes, further educational policy and inclusion to support the college’s strategic development. You’ll be helping set our vision and strategic priorities, making sure resources are used wisely to benefit learners and holding our senior team to account and supporting their success. You will have the opportunity to share your knowledge and insight to guide the Board’s decisions and represent Burnley College, championing our values of integrity, openness and ambition.

These are voluntary roles – but are hugely rewarding. You’ll be right at the heart of decisions that shape young people’s future, gain fresh perspectives and grow your leadership skills along the way.

Your Commitment as a Board Member

We ask our Board Members to commit to a four-year term, with around eight meetings each year – including both Board and committee sessions. While this is the minimum expectation, we truly value those who can get more involved by attending College events and spending time on campus when possible. Your presence and engagement help strengthen our community and make a real difference.

Meetings begin at 6pm and typically wrap up within two hours. All full board meetings take place in person at the College, giving you a real sense of the community you’re helping to lead. Whenever possible, we hold our committee meetings face-to-face as well, though we’re flexible and can also meet online to fit around your schedule.

Every new governor receives tailored induction and dedicated training, with ongoing support to help you thrive in your role from day one.
