The highly anticipated Lancashire Colleges’ Skills Competition Programme 2026 has officially begun, kicking off with the lively Sports competition – hosted right here at Burnley College.

A host of colleges gathered from across the region to face a range of exciting challenges designed to put their endurance, resilience and athletic abilities to the test using our elite on-site facilities and professional sports equipment.

The fiercely competitive teams were assessed by a panel of expert judges, which included Manchester United legend Mike Phelan and Blackburn Rovers icon David Dunn.

A huge congratulations to Blackburn College who triumphed as winners, demonstrating great talent and dedication with their performance.

The Burnley College team finished runners up, showcasing a fantastic display of teamwork and giving a tough competition their absolute all. The Sport competition is part of the Lancashire Colleges’ Skills Competition Programme 2026.

This year’s programme is sponsored by the Lancashire Skills and Employment Hub and Future U.

These events represent a unique, collaborative opportunity for learners across Lancashire to showcase the technical excellence, innovative thinking and key skills needed by local employers, whilst also exploring future career pathways.

This competition marks the first in a series of events that will be hosted at Burnley College, with the Health and Social Care competition on 11 March and a landmark IoT Day on 18 March still to come.

You can keep up with all of the competition action on social media using #LancsSkillsComps and via the @burnleycollege and @Lancs_Colls accounts.
