About the course

The City and Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Site Joinery builds precision, speed, and confidence for real site work, ideal for learners progressing from Level 1 or improvers ready to specialise. You will develop the core skills employers expect, grounded in health, safety, and building principles, while learning to read drawings, plan tasks, and work to commercial tolerances.

Practical training covers first fix flooring and roofing, including joists and trussed or flat roof elements, plus frames, partitions, and stairs such as setting out, door linings, and studwork. You will move into second fix operations, hanging doors, fitting skirting, architraves, window boards, and ironmongery to achieve a high quality finish.

You will also complete carpentry maintenance tasks, fault finding, and repair, alongside the safe setup and use of portable power tools. Training takes place in well equipped workshops that reflect site conditions, led by experienced tutors who guide you through structured, real world tasks. Assessment combines online knowledge tests with a synoptic practical assignment that proves you can plan, set out, and complete work safely, to specification, and on time.

On completion, you can progress to a Site Carpentry or Site Joinery Apprenticeship, move up to Level 3, or step into paid work as a trainee site carpenter with a clear route to skilled status and trade recognition.
