Entry Requirements

At least five GCSEs at Grade 5 or above in a good range of subjects, including Mathematics, English and Science. A clear focus on career in healthcare science. A successful interview with a tutor The ability to study independently Excellent communication skills Hardworking & resilient You may also need to undertake an interview with the Local Hospital Trust.

Assessment

You will be assessed by a combination of exam assessment, project work and synoptic assessment. Core Knowledge - Year 1 Overall core component grade (A* to E and U) 2 papers - 70% weighting. Employer set Project (ESP) - 30% weighting. Study includes: Science core element - This is assessed by written examination. Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Pathway core element - this covers working in the health sector. This is assessed by written examination. Subjects you will study include: Working in the Health and Science Sector Good Scientific and Clinical Practice Infection prevention and control Safeguarding Diseases and disorders of the human body Occupational specialism - Year 2 Supporting the Adult Nursing team - synoptic assessment to achieve a distinction/merit/pass. Topics you will study to develop occupational competence could include: - assisting the adult nursing team with clinical tasks. - Supporting individuals to meet activities of daily living - assist with skin integrity assessments and with the care and treatment of skin conditions. Industrial placement experience - students are required to complete a minimum of 315 hours industry placement.

Careers & Progression

Progression on to University to study BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult), BSc (Hons) Nursing (Children & Young People) or other relevant degrees, you can also enter employment and use your skills and knowledge to start working in the health sector or undertake an Apprenticeship.
