About the course
This qualification is aimed at learners wishing to pursue a career in engineering within the fabrication and welding sector. It has been developed to raise the learners skill level and enhance their underpinning knowledge to progress from basic welding and fabrication skills to a more highly developed understanding of equipment functions and how materials behave when subjected to fabrication and welding processes. This course has been developed in conjunction with industry experts and includes the latest fabrication and welding techniques, materials, processes and practices, and units are assessed in line with industry demands, which include updated rigorous practical assessments and online multiple-choice exams. The course allows candidates to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the engineering sector. The qualification has been developed in line with welding apprenticeships so learners can seamlessly transition across. The equipment and facilities are state-of-the-art, so will give you clear understanding of roles within industry. Fabrication and welding engineering involves working to engineering drawings to produce templates to mark-out, cut and shape materials. A plater will work with materials over 3mm in thickness to join components with fasteners or a range of fusion techniques. Welders will join sections, tube, pipe and plate together using a range of specialist welding equipment.

Careers & Progression
This course could prepare you for progression to Advanced or Degree Apprenticeship. On successful completion of the course and further study, typical careers include sheet metal worker, mechanical engineer, welding and fabrication engineer.
Extra curricular activities
You will have the opportunity to attend a range of trips, visits and guest speaker seminars. Previous trips have included a volunteering project in Thailand, a number of industry trips, CERN (Switzerland), Engineering companies in and around East Lancashire, paintballing, tour of Manchester City stadium and the Museum of Science and Industry
